Description
Falls and fall-related injuries remain a significant challenge across acute and long-term care settings, impacting patient and resident safety, clinical outcomes, and organizational performance. These incidents take a significant physical and mental toll on patients and residents, their families, and caregivers. Despite widespread attention to the issue, falls continue to be the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries among older adults, a top basis for liability claims, and the number one sentinel event reported to the Joint Commission. This webinar will explore recent national data trends and examine the underlying factors that contribute to falls and cause some organizations to struggle with achieving fall prevention goals. Webinar participants will gain practical insights into evidence-based strategies and interventions that can help pave the way for fall mitigation and management improvements in their organizations.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the webinar, the participant should be able to:
- Examine recent national data trends regarding patient/resident falls and fall-related injuries.
- Identify why patients/residents fall across care settings, including how system-based factors and implicit bias can influence fall risk.
- Evaluate evidence-based strategies to prevent falls and fall-related injuries.
